Fan art of the new Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers film imagines different movie posters for the Batman vs E.T. crossover gag. The reboot of the original 1989 Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers television series was recently released on Disney+ to generally positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike. Although the original show featured the titular heroes running a detective agency along with an eclectic group of sidekicks, the new film envisions the duo in a meta sense as washed-up cartoon actors voiced by John Mulaney and Andy Samberg.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers drops the anthropomorphic chipmunks into a meta universe, similar to that of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, where animated characters live alongside humans. This setting allows for a plethora of unique cameos, such as the infamous Ugly Sonic, as well as humorous referential gags. One such joke is a popular in-universe film that pits the Batman against the family-friendly alien character E.T. in an epic crossover battle. During a scene Chip 'n Dale, Chip wanders down Hollywood Boulevard and glances at the outlandish new sequels and reboots of popular franchises such as Fast and Furious Babies and Mr. Doubtfire starring Meryl Streep. Chip finally sees the poster for Batman vs. E.T., a film in the vein of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and remarks, "Okay. That one looks pretty good," before watching the film at his home with his dog.
