Anvil Empires is a newly announced massively-multiplayer war game from Foxhole developer Siege Camp. The upcoming open-world sandbox conquest game is set to begin pre-alpha testing in April.
As an open-world sandbox, players get toshape the entire experience, just like Foxhole. This is intended to be a Medieval large-scale conquest that will take weeks to fully play out, so there will be a persistent online world and servers that will enable up to 1,000 players to fight in massive real-time battles. The battle is everywhere, as there are no safe zones and it's entirely an open world PVP game.
Since it is set in a Medieval time period, the logistics of setting your camps will rely on Medieval techniques and methods. Strategically build the equipment that you'll need to prepare for massive sieges on enemy strongholds as well as to defend. So expect to build things like siege ladders or battering rams and to strengthen fortresses and keeps to let your side defend against attacks.
Your settlements can be simple, or they can grow into well-populated towns with people ready to lend their efforts.
As with any sandbox, the potential lies in the players to decide whether they want to work together to form a community, or whether they want to try and conquer all. You'll be able to roam around the world, even going around on horseback destroying villages and looting them, and taking the resources back with you.
Siege Camp, in their announcement, noted that there is a whole second team developing Anvil Empires, having worked on the game for a couple of years.
