DC/Marvel Movie Crossover Is More Likely Under James Gunn, Who Says DC Has Discussed It
James Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios, has said there have been «very light» discussions about a potential DC/Marvel crossover. Gunn wrote and directed the Guardians of the Galaxy film series for Marvel before switching teams to DC to become its new co-CEO alongside Peter Safran. Given his history, Gunn would appear to be well-suited to at least help the conversation about a crossover take place, but whether or not it ever comes to fruition is another matter.
Gunn told Empire that he is «certain» the chances of a DC/Marvel crossover are greater now that he is a leader at DC Studios and would presumably be one of the key people involved in those discussions. However, any potential crossover wouldn't happen anytime soon.
«That's many years away, though,» he said. «I think we have to establish what we're doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven't discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.»
Gunn's final MCU movie is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which arrives May 5 in theaters. His first directorial project as DC Studios co-CEO is 2025's Superman: Legacy, which he also wrote. Gunn recently finished the script and is now preparing a casting list and audition material. One of the biggest unanswered questions is who will play Superman, and that remains a mystery.
The next DC film, meanwhile, in The Flash (June 16), which will be followed by Blue Beetle (August 18), and Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom (December 25).
