First pictures of what is reported to be AMD's next-gen Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7985WX 64-Core CPU have been leaked.
The latest leak comes from Yuuki_AnS who has managed to spot a listing of the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7985WX CPU over at the Goofish platform. The seller has listed the chip for a price of 999 RMB which converts to around $1300 US but this is an early engineering sample as evidenced by the labels and the OPN-Code and while the seller guarantees that it works, you will need a compatible board which doesn't seem to be on sale at the moment.
As for the specifications, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7985WX "100-000000454" features 64 cores based on the Zen 4 core architecture so that's 8 CCDs with 256 MB of L3 cache and a total of 128 threads. The CPU should feature a TDP of around 350W and will be compatible with the Storm Peak platform. We have previously seen the same processor running on the AMD BoulderGulch reference motherboard with 256 GB (8 x 32 GB) DDR5-5600 memory.
Now the important thing here is that the CPU is listed for compatibility with the AMD SP6 socket which is designed for the EPYC 8004 "Siena" family. These chips come with a LGA 4844 layout and are compatible with the new SP6 socket which is designed as a low-cost workstation and server-aimed solution while Genoa and Bergamo tackle the high-end data center and HPC segment on AMD's SP5 "LGA 6096" socket.
It's been known for a while that the AMD Storm Peak platform will come in two flavors, an 8-channel and 4-channel offering. The 8-channel offering is likely to use the higher-end SP5 socket which will allow support for the Threadripper 7995WX 96-core CPU as 12 CCDs aren't possible within the SP6 package size unless the CPU is based on a Zen 4C
