Amazon's massive The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV series is already one of the most expensive programs ever produced, and that was even before cameras started filming, as Amazon shelling out $250 million to the Tolkien estate just for the rights alone. Amazon billed the series as one focusing on the untold middle ground of characters such as Galadriel, Durin, Sauron, and Gandalf.
At the end of last season, we saw the beginning of the formation of the Last Alliance and Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) unknowingly saved Sauron, who had disguised himself as a king of the Southlands. All the while, he had secretly infiltrated the High Elves and tricked them into forging the first three of those titular Rings of Power. Season 1 was heavy on the setup, but the upcoming Season 2 will start amping things up more and more.
«Season 1 was a time of relative peace, an introductory time meeting everybody,” Sophia Nomvete, who plays dwarven princess Disa, told Deadline. „Season 2 is the unraveling of it all. It's when the force of evil really starts to put pressure on Middle Earth and we watch how everyone that we know and hopefully love handles that situation. The stakes are higher.“
Nomvete added that Season 2 will also show what that force of evil does to each race and to each relationship and promises so much more action.
»We weathered the storms, and there's a real sense of confidence in who and what we are. I'm really excited about it."
The Rings of Power isn't the only Lord of the Rings property making its way to fans, as there will be new movies helmed by Peter Jackson on the horizon. However, Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke is "unfazed" and feels confident there's enough for fans to go around.
