An honest opinion by well-established technology YouTubers can give a boatload of advice to companies to help improve their products for next year’s release, but it appears that Mrwhosetheboss’ take of last year’s Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro rubbed Google the wrong way. As a result, the content creator did not receive a Pixel 9 invite, nor has he yet to receive any review unit from the advertising giant. Cementing yourself as an impartial source of information for millions of viewers can have drawbacks, it appears.
Arun Maini, better known as Mrwhosetheboss on YouTuber, has amassed a loyal following and has accumulated views in the billions for his diversified smartphone reviews. Naturally, anyone who has subscribed to his channel would be scratching his or his head as to why he has yet to publish a first impressions video of the Pixel 9 series, whereas creators like MKBHD, Dave2D, and others have uploaded theirs. It turns out that Google and its team may not have been happy about Mrwhosetheboss’ honest verdict of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro video from 2023 below.
The 22-minute-long review talks about various positives, but Arun did not shy away from criticizing the two flagships. The first area he took a jab at was generative AI, stating that the features Google introduced last year were not as seamless as the company had marketed. The Mountain View also did not mention during its on-stage presentation that the Pixel 8 lineup’s AI features are cloud-based, meaning that an active internet connection is required at all times to take advantage of them.
