We're not actually sure when the next Digimon Story game was first announced, but we do know that it was years ago. Back in early 2022, Bandai Namco reassured fans that the title was still in development, and now, two whole years later, we're getting that same comment again.
As reported by Gematsu, the update was provided during Digimon Con 2024, with the series' producer commenting: «We apologise for keeping fans waiting, but we ask for your patience until we're ready to share more information.» That's that, then.
It's obviously not much, but at least it's an acknowledgement of the ongoing project. At this point, we just hope that things aren't too messy behind the scenes. In the aforementioned 2022 update, there was talk of the game being primarily set in the digital world itself — the strange realm in which digimon reside — and we assume that's still the case.

Are you still waiting on the next Digimon World title? Carry on being a cyber sleuth in the comments section below.
Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, he's played 'em all — a little too much, some might say.
It's taken nearly 13.8 billion years so far and it's still not ready!
2 years isn't long. Games don't get finished that fast anymore.
Would liked to see a remaster of Digimon world 1 through 3 or at least add the originals to plus premium
Nice I would prefer remasters/remakes of the older Digimon world games including the DS ones.
As much as I love the Cyber Sleuth games I would have loved them to have English dub as an option
I was looking at Digimon Survive yesterday. Maybe that can tide me over
