Before joining The Walking Dead, Christian Serratos made a very brief appearance on American Horror Story. While there had been some classic horror TV shows like The X-Files prior to the 2010s, this decade proved to be something of a golden age for the genre. This saw the arrival of shows like Hannibal, Penny Dreadful, The Walking Dead — based on the popular Robert Kirkman graphic novel — and American Horror Story, with the latter two still going strong a decade on.
American Horror Story was co-created by Ryan Murphy (Glee) and Brad Falchuk, with the aim being to create an anthology horror show that followed new characters each season. Season 1 was «Murder House» and featured a very Ryan Murphy take on the classic haunted house story — complete with lashings of sex and violence. The series was a success, with later seasons focused on new themes and main characters — though the «Murder House» itself would be revisited and later destroyed in later seasons. It was also enough of a hit to spawn spin-offs, including American Horror Stories.

The Walking Dead itself arrived on AMC in 2010 and acted as a launchpad for actors like Steven Yeun, Jon Bernthal and Danai Gurira. Actor Christian Serratos had a few credits to her name before joining The Walking Dead — such as playing Angela Weber in the Twilight Saga — where she played Rosita. She also had a small role in the first episode of American Horror Story.
