Unicorn Overlord launched worldwide last week, and especially in Japan, the Vanillaware-developed fantasy tactics RPG seems to have got off to a solid start- better than publisher Atlus might have anticipated, in fact.
In a recently published message on its website, the company thanked players in Japan for “the very positive reception”, which, it turns out, has seen its physical copies go out of stock within days of release. Atlus has apologized for the supply shortages, and says that another shipment is coming in soon- though players may want to pre-book their copies, given how popular the game has proven in Japan.
Vanillaware’s CEO George Kamitani recently revealed that the studio ran out of funding during Unicorn Overlord’s development, and had to dip into its own pocket to get it past the finish line, so the developer will certainly be relieved to see the game performing well.
Unicorn Overlord is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Atlus says there are currently no plans to bring the game to PC.
