In fact, it's not even enough to hire a team of pro translators - some lines are just too region specific to ever work in another language. Such was the case with Undertale, and Sans' iconic "get dunked on" line.
As revealed in the latest book from Clyde Mandelin of Legends of Localisation, replicating the feel of "get dunked on" was a much harder task than you might expect. With no equivalent in Japanese, the team were forced to change the line altogether, making it: "All I did was try to hug you..." Nothing quite had the same 'bite' as the original English quote."
In the end, the team settled on something else entirely: "Huh? You died? That's weird. All I did was try to hug you..."
To us lot in the west, this might be confusing at first, but it makes a lot of sense. Much like "get dunked on", it's a line that will take you by surprise the first time you hear it, and stick with you long
