While many suspect Grand Theft Auto 6 is nearing completion, there's still no confirmation on the state of the game, but an insider thinks the hotly anticipated release could hold some things back for DLC. Given that GTA 5 will be turning 10 years old this year, it's not surprising that fans are eagerly awaiting the next entry in what is largely considered to be one of the biggest franchises in all of gaming.
The closest anyone came to seeing the game was towards the latter parts of 2022 when someone leaked early GTA 6 gameplay footage. The highly controversial leaks represented the state of development at the time the videos were captured. As well as causing quite the backlash from both Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive, there were some in the community who felt the game did not look in a near-finished state, which led fans to believe that it was still a long way from a possible release date.

Now, it looks as though Grand Theft Auto 6 could be about to engage in a bit of controversy itself. In a recent report from Dexerto, insider Tez2 believes Rockstar may not be ready to release the next installment until maybe 2024 or even 2025. The post concludes by saying the developer could also cut portions of the game to «package into DLCs to release later on.» The reason behind this, according to the leaker, is to hopefully prevent further delaying the game's launch. If that's true, it will likely prove unpopular with fans, who will not take kindly to GTA 6 holding back content for a later date.
