The Pokémon Company has revealed that the next series of the Pokémon anime will be called Pokémon Horizons.
A trailer for the new series was shown after the final episode of Pokemon Ultimate Journeys aired in Japan.
The final episode marked the end of Ash and Pikachu’s story arc, an adventure that had been ongoing ever since the first episode of the Pokémon anime aired 26 years ago.
Pokémon Horizons will instead feature new protagonists called Liko and Roy.
A description for the trailer (shown above) reads: “Set sail for a new journey in Pokémon Horizons: The Series! Follow Liko and Roy as they unravel the mysteries that surround them and encounter Friede, Captain Pikachu, Amethio, and others during their exciting adventures!”
The series will be set in the Paldea region, which is the same setting as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and will feature the Paldea starter Pokémon – Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly – in a prominent role.
The trailer also appears to show a Shiny Terastallised Rayquaza, something which has yet to feature in the games.
No release date has been set for the series’ debut in the west, but The Pokémon Company says the show is “coming [in] 2023 and beyond”.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be getting a two-part DLC expansion later this year, called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.
Part 1: The Teal Mask will be released this fall, and Part 2: The Indigo Disk will be released in winter 2023.
Players who pre-order the expansion will be provided with a new uniform set, which will differ depending on which base game they have.
