Actor Miles Teller gives a promising update on the status of a potential Top Gun 3 after the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick. Tom Cruise returned to play Lt. Pete «Maverick» Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel 36 years in the making, which has gone on to become a box office behemoth. Teller plays Lt. Bradley «Rooster» Bradshaw in the film, the son of Maverick's former rear pilot, Nick «Goose» Bradshaw (played by Anthony Edwards), who was killed in the first Top Gun.
Top Gun: Maverick has gone on to become a record-breaking success, after multiple release delays due to the pandemic. The film is now Tom Cruise's highest-grossing film ever and the highest-grossing film of 2022 so far, beating out both Marvel and DC comic book blockbusters. Naturally, that type of success leads to sequel talks, which are persisting even though Top Gun: Maverick itself took decades to come to fruition.

While talking to ET Online, Teller gave a promising update on the status of a potential Top Gun 3, saying that he's «had conversations» with Tom Cruise about it, but didn't reveal much more than that. The actor talked about the success of the recent film, making mention of how it will help «future negotiations» for his career (especially for a Top Gun 3, should that ever happen). While Teller sounds optimistic about a potential sequel, he ultimately says it's all up to Tom Cruise:
«That would be great, but that's all up to TC. It's all up to Tom. I've been having some conversations with him about it. We'll see.»
