During a recent appearance at a press conference with the Critics Choice Association (via Collider), Holland was asked if he would be reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in any future Marvel Cinematic Universe films. He revealed that he has been in conversation with Marvel, but a fourth Spider-Man movie has to be worthwhile of Spider-Man to do.
“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character,” Holland said. “Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”
Throughout the past few years, reports and rumors began circulating that a new Spider-Man movie starring Holland could be coming as soon as 2024, although that will not be happening now. Further rumors have suggested that Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again will play a significant role in future Spider-Man films.
In September 2021, Holland told GQ that he doesn’t want to play Spider-Man after he turns 30 (Holland is currently 27), saying that means he’s “done something wrong” if that ends up happening. “Maybe it is time for me to move on.
