Star Wars Celebration 2023 started off with colossal news during the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase, announcing new projects and revealing additional cast members joining already in production. Andor Season 2 and the first Ahsoka trailer were shown, but then came the movie news: Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that three new live-action Star Wars films are on the way.
Joining Kennedy on stage were the directors of these films: James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), and Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel, Saving Face). Each feature takes place in a different era in the Star Wars universe. Mangold will be going way in the past to the dawn of the Jedi, with Filoni being able to wrap up the stories he and his team have been telling in the Disney+ TV series The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Book of Boba Fett.
However, it was Obaid-Chinoy's feature that received the biggest reaction of the presentation as it was announced that her movie will focus on a Jedi Master Rey and continuation after the events of Rise of Skywalker and the founding of the New Jedi Order. Daisy Ridley joined the directors on stage as the fans welcomed her back to the Star Wars universe.
