If you want to get your hands on your very own Mobile Suit Gundam, or at least something resembling it, Tsubame Industries can make it happen—for $3 million.
Inspired by Gundam, a popular Japanese franchise that dates back to 1979, the approximately 15-foot tall ARCHAX features cockpit monitors that display images from the exterior cameras to provide guidance while controlling the robot’s arms and hands from the inside, Reuters reports.
Due to be announced at the Japan Mobility Show in late October, the robot will support two modes—robot and vehicle—and can travel up to 6 miles per hour. Ryo Yoshida, Tsubame Industries CEO, also has his sights set on using ARCHAX for space exploration some day.
"Japan is very good at animation, games, robots, and automobiles so I thought it would be great if I could create a product that compressed all these elements into one," Yoshida says.
Tsubame is only making five of these robots to start. It will also take between 12 and 18 months to produce once an order comes in, so robot fans will need to be patient. If you just want to take a peek, the 3.5-ton ARCHAX will be on display at the show from Oct. 28-Nov. 5.
