HBO's The Penguin series seems to be moving along nicely. Images taken from the set of The Batman spinoff could now point to the immediate events the show will track, with Cristin Milioti and Colin Farrell spotted in costume at what appears to be Carmine Falcone's funeral.
In 2022’s The Batman, mafia boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) is gunned down by the Riddler after being arrested by Lieutenant James Gordon before the movie’s final act takes place. That moment sets up the perfect power vacuum for Oswald Cobblepot's rise to power in Gotham's criminal underworld, with The Penguin following suit one week after the film’s ending. However, Milioti's casting as Sofia Falcone suggests the infamous villain will have to fight her for control of that empire.

Thanks to new photos taken from the set of The Penguin (via @thebatfilm), DC fans can now glimpse Milioti and Farrell attending what appears to be Falcone's service. Both are wearing dark, black clothing while standing next to some roses in what could be the entrance of a church. Farrell's Penguin is again wearing the impressive makeup and prosthetics that allowed the actor to play this villain role, and it’s somewhat interesting that the two are not featured together.
Surprisingly enough, Sofia Falcone made her comic book debut in Batman: The Long Halloween, a story from which Matt Reeves drew inspiration. So it makes sense showrunner Lauren LeFranc would use the character in The Penguin. That said, the 5’2” actress wearing black and looking lost in her thoughts is a stark contrast from many of Sofia Falcone's comics appearances.
