Steam giveaways may not be as predictable as the free games given away through the Epic Games Store, but users on Valve's platform still have multiple free games to claim each year. Those that have made sure to snag the free Steam games whenever they are available should have amassed a sizable collection by now.
There's a reason why Steam is easily the most popular digital distribution platform when it comes to PC games. Beyond the fact that Steam has been around for almost two decades at this point, it offers a variety of features and services that other platforms do not. From now until February 15, Steam users can claim Dead Island: Riptide on Steam completely free of charge. Plus, RPG Maker XP is free on Steam until February 19. As long as one claims the games before their free availability windows are up, they will have access to them indefinitely. Dead Island: Riptide typically retails for $19.99, while RPG Maker XP is usually $24.99, so Steam users are effectively getting $45 worth of free games if they claim them in time.
For those unfamiliar with the two games, Dead Island: Riptide is a spin-off of the Dead Island series, offering a smaller-scale adventure that builds heavily on the mechanics seen in the first Dead Island game. Its recent reviews have pegged it with a «Mixed» overall rating, though its overall reviews on Steam are «Mostly Positive.» RPG Maker XP, meanwhile, was first released in 2005, and it has earned «Overwhelmingly Positive» recent reviews and «Very Positive» overall reviews.
