Meta Platforms, the maker of the Oculus Quest and its successors, has added a new feature to its Meta Quest+ subscription service: a rotating games catalog like Xbox Game Pass. The company formerly known as Facebook introduced its first generation of VR headsets back in 2019 and, since then, it's sought to build on the technology. The Oculus Quest was followed by the Meta Quest 2 and then the Meta Quest 3, and the library for all the headsets has grown over time.
Of course, this new technology has still faced an ongoing struggle to catch on and gain wider support among gamers. Ubisoft head Yves Guillemot has expressed disappointment with VR game sales even as he remains a big supporter of the concept. Even as more companies, like Samsung and PlayStation, have attempted to lead the way with their own offerings, VR gaming is still arguably in its infancy.
Now, in an attempt to draw in more users, Meta Platforms is expanding on Meta Quest+ to offer a rotating library of titles included in the monthly fee, similar to Xbox Game Pass. Meta Quest+ subscribers already get two titles to claim every month and, as long as they stay subscribed, they will retain access to all games they've redeemed indefinitely. On top of that, those who let their subscription lapse will be able to get all their old games back as soon as they resubscribe. The big new change, however, is the addition of a rotating library of games beyond the two that subscribers get to keep.
For some owners of a Meta Quest device, $60 a year for 24 games is a great deal, and the addition of a revolving library makes it even more attractive. There certainly were some great VR games in 2023, and if subscribers get access to the likes of them, the service is likely to attract more fans. Starting on March 1, 2024, subscribers will get access to titles like Demeo, Fruit Ninja, and the exciting Jurassic World Aftermath Collection.
