Dragon's Dogma 2 fans all have one common enemy at the moment, and it's not the massive ogres that dropkick you off a cliff. Ever since it was discovered that Dragonsplague - a mysterious illness that can befall your Pawns and cause them to turn against you - has the capability to completely destroy your save files by killing every NPC in a city or town, players have been on the lookout for any possible sign that their Pawns are down with the sickness.
No one is quite sure what the first signs of the sickness are, especially if you accidentally skip past the prompt like many have already done, so any odd behavior from a Pawn - no matter how small - is being treated like a death sentence. There are many ways to deal with a potentially plague-stricken Pawn, but one of the most effective is seeing Dragon's Dogma 2 players en masse throwing their beloved companions into the briny depths of the ocean.
Take a look at the Dragon's Dogma subreddit, and you'll see several posts of people either joking about throwing their Pawns into the ocean, or actually videos of players doing it themselves. For example, Reddit user ShadyLemonsReddit shares a video of them walking along a path, only for their Pawn to make a fairly snarky comment that they can't survive without them. For their cheekiness, ShadyLemonsReddit immediately yeets the Pawn into the nearest body of water, killing them instantly.
Any form of aggression is currently being punished with a swift dunking, and you'll find multiple jokes talking about people throwing their Pawns in a lake for disobeying orders, talking back, or even just being a little sassy, They're taking absolutely no chances, and even if you're not sure whether you Pawn has the plague or not, ShadyLemonsReddit recommends throwing them in anyway to "let the brine decide." We've officially turned into witch-hunting peasants from the 16th Century.
