During Summer Game Fest 2024's IGN Live, Offworld Industries unveiled the 1.0 release date for Starship Troopers: Extermination. The 16-player cooperative first-person shooter game will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X on October 11, nearly a year and a half after the May 2023 early access debut.
One of the additions to the full version is a single player mode featuring 25 distinct missions and a variety of PvE combat scenarios across multiple environments, with a second chapter to follow post-launch. The story premise is that players are selected to join an elite spec ops group within the Mobile Infantry. They will soon find themselves following the orders of living legend General John “Johnny” Rico, proving their mettle against hordes of enemy Arachnids with the aid of three original NPC allies to prove themselves worthy of recruitment. And yes, Johnny Rico will be played by Casper Van Dien, the actor featured in the cult 1997 Starship Troopers movie.
Offworld Industries also confirmed that a long-requested new feature will be added to Starship Troopers: Extermination 1.0: the persistence on the battlefield of bug corpses. This will lend increased realism to the game experience, not to mention the possible introduction of tactical elements as players climb mountains of corpses to shoot the remaining bugs from a vantage point.
Those interested in the game should keep in mind that the current pricing of the early access version ($29.99) will increase with the launch of version 1.0. As such, it may be wise to purchase the game now before the expected price increase. The developers also promised to share more information about the next early access update, slated to go live at the end of June, very soon.
