Bethesda has given fans a sneak peek at what they can expect from the next Starfield update, which is set to enter Steam beta testing on March 6. Starfield was one of 2023's biggest games, launching to impressive sales and high player counts on Xbox Game Pass. Interest in Starfield has waned since its initial launch, but Bethesda has continued to improve the game with updates that will potentially convince lapsed players to return.
While some fans will be lured back to Starfield to check out the game's quality-of-life improvements, others are likely waiting for the first big DLC to drop. The Shattered Space expansion for Starfield is expected to release later this year, and Bethesda is working to get the game ready for it. This effort includes bug fixes and even more quality-of-life improvements, which is what the next update is focused on.
Full patch notes for the next Starfield update are not available at the time of this writing, but Bethesda did give fans a preview of what they can expect. Once the new Starfield update enters Steam Beta, those opting in can check out the new expressions coming to Photo Mode, which includes new poses for the robot companion VASCO as well. Bethesda is also improving the scanner with the new update, so players can harvest resources and open doors while the scanner is active. Additional improvements include setting a course for an inactive mission automatically making that the active mission, and a fix for one of the game's more frustrating bugs.
Some unfortunate Starfield players have been unable to properly complete the quest «Sabotage» due to a bug that made the important NPC David Barron disappear. The new update aims to rectify that problem, which will in turn give any Starfield players stuck on that mission the chance to finish it.
