Aspyr has acknowledged the issues with Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection's launch, pinning them on "critical errors" with its network infrastructure. While it works on a fix, it thanks players for their overwhelming support and feedback - even while the game falls to "Overwhelmingly Negative" reviews on Steam.
However, the statement falls short of referencing the bugs that players have reported since the game's launch yesterday, only referring to the server issues that led to crashes and matchmaking problems. In response, fans are growing more frustrated, as it isn't clear when these bugs will be addressed.
Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is made up of two games: Star Wars Battlefront, and Star Wars Battlefront. They originally launched in 2004 and 2005 respectively.
"We’d like to thank the Battlefront community for their overwhelming support and feedback for the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection release," reads an update from Aspyr. "At launch, we experienced critical errors with our network infrastructure."
It continues: "The result was incredibly high ping, matchmaking errors, crashes, and servers not appearing in the browser. Since launch, we’ve been working to address these issues and increase network stability, and we will continue our efforts until our network infrastructure is stabilized to prevent further outages."
However, fans are frustrated that many of the issues they have experienced were not mentioned in this statement.
Reviews on Steam are Overwhelmingly Negative, and many players now appear to have gotten refunds. It seems that the issues may not be as prevalent on console, as reviews on PlayStation are much better, sitting at around 3.4/5 at the time of writing. With that said, the score is brought down by 30 percent of the reviews being one star, so there are plenty of fans that feel that this release was handled poorly.
