One of the things that Splatoon 3 did from the get-go to ensure it was more advanced than its previous entries was expanding the ways that people could play within it. It still had the classic game modes and a single-player story, but the title also wanted to give players new and fresh experiences. An excellent example was the Tableturf Battle card game that you could play. There was nothing like that in the other two games, and many have liked it. But another example of the game branching out was with the “Big Run” event.
The event played off of what the Splatfest did but turned it around and made it about the Salmon Run mode. In it, the Salmonids would migrate into the Splatlands, and it’s up to you and various other players to beat them back and get as many eggs as possible. Because the Salmonids are in the Splatlands now, you’d get new maps to play around in and have to endure the creatures on new turf, as the maps won’t play as they do in things like Turf Wars.
The biggest change is that if you are “lucky,” you’ll have to face a King Salmonid, which is incredibly hard to kill. The new mode seemed to hit a good chord with fans as it was announced on Twitter that the mode was about to return:

That tweet means we’re only a few weeks away from the event going down, and we’ll have a new map to play on this time. But wait, that’s not the only thing they announced. Remember the King Salmonid? Well, apparently, we have a new one to face next month:
A new King Salmonid has been sighted snaking through the skies
