Rumours of a Shin Megami Tensei V port have been doing the rounds for a long time — even dating back to before the game released on Nintendo Switch in 2021 — but they've been revived alongside the announcement of the series' 30th anniversary event. Said event will take place on the 5th and 6th May in Japan.
Now, it wouldn't come as a huge surprise to see the likes of Shin Megami Tensei V jump to other platforms. After all, this is modern Atlus we're talking about. A subsidiary of SEGA, the Japanese publisher has been pushing for broader appeal, bringing games like Persona 5 Royal and its predecessors to all current consoles in recent times.
What's more, references to the PS4 were spotted in SMTV's code, and that alone was enough to spread the fires of speculation.
The only issue with this ongoing rumour is that there's no real evidence to back things up. We've tried tracing the whispers to their origins, but there's not much to see. It's mostly just forum posts and social media «insiders» making unverified claims. One specific rumour even said that SMTV was nailed on for a PS5 and PS4 launch in 2022 — but that was obviously nonsense.
Again, it could happen — especially if Microsoft is paying the way with another Game Pass deal — but we wouldn't get your hopes up just yet. As always, we'll have to wait and see.
Robert's been a dedicated PlayStation fan since the days of Tekken 2, and he still loves a good dust up. When he's not practising combos, he's usually getting lost in the latest 100-hour RPG, or, y'know, replaying The Witcher 3.
I’d love this to find more players but I won’t get excited till it’s official and not some faceless rumour any random could have made up.
Please, please please. I cannot get through this
