It's almost hard to believe since the Nintendo Switch has utterly dominated the Japanese hardware (and software) charts for so many years, but the PS5 is top of the pile yet again in the latest sales list. Sony's current-gen console just isn't slowing down in Japan, where it sold through another 78,412 units last week.
That puts it just above the Switch's total of 66,525, but for Sony, the best part of this will be that PS5 sales figures are now mostly being maintained on a week-to-week basis.
There's little doubt that these numbers will eventually start to drop, but it's fair to say that PlayStation really is on a roll in Japan right now. It'll be very, very interesting to see how things take shape as we creep closer to blockbuster releases like Resident Evil 4, Street Fighter 6, and Final Fantasy XVI. The question is, and will be: can the PS5 keep this up for the rest of 2023?
