Sales of the PS5 console in Japan are down for a second week running, but the system still shifted just enough units to be named the country's best-selling box last week. 34,156 PS5 disc consoles were sold during the week beginning 13th March 2023 while 6,255 PS5 digital editions got bought. The PS5's closest rival was the Nintendo Switch OLED, which it narrowly outsold by exactly 1,004 units.
When the two PS5 system variations are added together, Sony sold 40,381 consoles last week. Compared to the week before — where it shifted just shy of 65,000 units — it's a clear downward trend as that total was lower than the one previous. It doesn't seem like Japan has been hit by a new wave of PS5 Stock issues, but with sales currently down, it may be slightly harder to find one now than it was in recent months.
On the software side, the only game to make the top 10 that isn't the Nintendo Switch version is Hogwarts Legacy. Besides that, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe takes first place and the Bayonetta spin-off Cereza and the Lost Demon debuts in sixth. The usual titles like Splatoon 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Minecraft were other top sellers last week. The latest sales data is provided by Famitsu and is viewable below.
