Capcom Opens Huge Motion Capture Facility to 'Further Strengthen' Its Games | Push Square

You know Capcom must be doing well for itself when it's just revealed a brand new, state-of-the-art development facility. Made up of not one, but two large motion capture studios, the so-called Capcom Creative Studio has opened in Osaka, Japan. Osaka is also where you'll find the company's head office.

Capcom wants to «bolster creation of cutting-edge game visuals» with this facility, in a bid to «further strengthen» its output. Of course, many would argue that the publisher's games are already of a very high quality, so this is basically the icing on the cake. The likes of Resident Evil 4 remake look fantastic thanks to Capcom's fantastic RE Engine, but these new studios could push things even further.

Indeed, we're talking about big budget projects here. For example, Sony's key PlayStation Studios — Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Insomniac Games, Guerrilla Games, Sucker Punch, etc. — all make heavy use of the latest motion capture technology, and it's at least partly why titles such as The Last of Us, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Forbidden West look so good.

The press release reads: «The new Creative Studio is a cutting-edge production facility equipped with two motion capture studios. By enhancing the spatial density of filming with 150 cameras, including the latest ultra-high-resolution models, outfitted in one of the largest filming areas in Japan (11m×15m×5m), this new studio makes it possible to simultaneously film as many as 10 actors or even carry out full-performance motion capture.» It certainly sounds impressive.
