It is no surprise that Starfield is currently the most wishlisted game on Steam. It is the first new IP conceived by Bethesda Game Studios, the developer behind megahit franchises like Elder Scrolls and Fallout, in the last twenty-five years. It's also their first to be set in a sci-fi universe, which they described as 'Nasapunk' to convey the idea of a relatively grounded spacefaring future.
The open world roleplaying game was originally scheduled to launch on November 11th, 2022, on the eleventh anniversary of the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda Game Studios' best-selling game to date. Starfield was, however, delayed to the first half of 2023 alongside Arkane's Redfall. While the latter game has now been reconfirmed for a May 2nd release date after the gameplay reveal during January's Bethesda and Xbox Developer Direct, Starfield fans are still waiting to get their own gameplay overview, which was confirmed to be coming separately from the aforementioned Developer Direct.
The wait for the Starfield gameplay showcase's date could end shortly, however, according to the latest rumors. A few hours ago, Andy Robinson from VideoGamesChronicle tweeted that the announcement was due shortly. During the latest Xbox Two podcast episode, Jez Corden from Windows Central added that the showcase would be announced next week.
They didn't say anything about the actual date, but it stands to reason that the Starfield gameplay showcase may happen sometime in March. Likely, the event will also include the new release date for Bethesda's space epic. It'll be interesting to find out whether BGS can hold on to the promise of launching before the end of the first half of the year, though that would put the game in competition
