Sony has deployed PS5 System Software Update 23.01-07.40.00, making the console even more stable than before.
Like most of Sony's new console firmware updates, this new system update again improves the console stability. In addition, the system software update improves the performance of the system software. Then again, Nintendo also has a neck for releasing system updates that seemingly only improve system performance and stability.
Although almost non-existent, the official release notes for this new firmware version also mention that Sony has improved the messages and usability on some screens. No further details have been provided. Sony's previous system update, firmware version 23.01-07.20.00, also improved system software performance and stability.
We've not come across under-the-hood changes that haven't been documented just yet, but as always, we will update you in case more details about this new firmware version become available.
PS5 System Software Update 23.01-07.40.00 will be downloaded and installed automatically if this option has been enabled in the system software update settings in the console's settings menu. Of course, players can also download the update manually. Here's how to enable automatic updates on PS5:
1. Select Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
2. Turn on Download Update Files Automatically and Install Update Files Automatically.
Turning on Install Update Files Automatically lets your console install system software updates automatically while in rest mode, so your console is up to date and ready to go the next time you play.
