Qualcomm is rumored to introduce its custom Oryon cores with the announcement of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4, and prior to its official unveiling, there have been a string of rumors discussing its rumored performance and how it fares against Apple’s M-series of SoCs. Looking at the latest numbers, the San Diego chipmaker’s upcoming flagship chipset convincingly beats the Apple M3 in multi-core performance, so let us talk about the latest figures in more detail.
Earlier, Revegnus shared that the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 was barely faster than the M2, but that was to be expected, given that Qualcomm has previously been rumored to test out multiple variants of this chipset. The slower versions’ performance cores were said to be operating at 3.00GHz, while the power-efficiency ones were rumored to be clocked at 2.30GHz. In the latest rumored Geekbench 5 single-core and multi-core scores, Revegnus does not share the clock speed details of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4.
However, if the chipset obtained a multi-core score of 14,500, it likely means that the performance and efficiency cores were running at a higher frequency than what we have mentioned above. According to a lengthy specifications leak, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 had a clock speed of 3.40GHz and 2.50GHz, and these frequencies are higher than the previous variant tested and might be the reason for that multi-core performance boost. As for Apple’s M3, the tipster says that the company’s first 3nm SoC has a score of 11,000, making it significantly slower than Qualcomm’s offering.
