MediaTek and Qualcomm will reportedly unveil their top-tier smartphone chipsets much earlier this year as compared to 2022, but the Taiwanese firm may have an edge with its Dimensity 9300, as the latter is rumored to launch before the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Qualcomm recently put out an announcement saying that its Snapdragon Summit will happen in late October, possibly because it wants its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to be out in the open as quickly as possible. However, as Digital chatter writes on Weibo, the Dimensity 9300 might be a few days ahead of its closest competitor when it comes to an official launch, though the tipster has not mentioned the dates.
Now that we know that the Snapdragon Summit will kick off on October 24, this official timeline suggests that MediaTek will host its Dimensity 9300 launch event earlier. Even if MediaTek has this lead, the announcement should only play a small part in deciding which company will have a larger market share in the Android flagship smartphone SoC space. Previously, the Dimensity 9000 was unveiled before the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but the former went into mass production a little later, giving Qualcomm the clear lead.
On this occasion, both the Dimensity 9300 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 are rumored to be mass produced on TSMC’s more advanced 4nm N4P process, so whoever gets the initial shipments will gain a foothold in the market. However, even if MediaTek gets its batch first through some hidden deal with TSMC, we cannot ignore Qualcomm’s own reputation as a company, as notable brands like Samsung will likely covet the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
