Smite 2 has been announced during the Smite World Championships.
The multiplayer battle arena sequel will arrive on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. While no release date was given, the game will enter closed alpha testing in spring 2024.
At launch, the game will feature 25 gods, and Titan Forge has said that it intends to bring over every God from the original game “eventually.”
While some of Smite 2’s launch roster will feature returning characters, new gods were also shown off as part of the keynote. Hecate, the Greek goddess of sorcery, will be added to the game following fan demand.
During the Smite keynote, Smite general manager Travis Brown called Smite 2 a MOBA with “more impact, more strategy and more creativity.”
The game will feature full cross-play and cross-progression meaning unlocks will transfer between PC and console versions of Smite 2.
The game is built in Unreal Engine 5, which Titan Forge has said allows it to totally redesign all of the game’s major systems and visual elements. During the keynote, it was joked that some of the original game’s visual cues ran in Flash, the now-defunct animation software.
Titan Forge says that the goal of Smite 2 is to “enhance the game in all areas,” while maintaining the “feel,” of Smite that players are used to. The game will remain third-person and will also support both keyboard and controller when it enters alpha testing.
Titan Forge has said that it will continue to support the original Smite for the foreseeable future and that the game will receive its 130th hero later this year.
