One of the developers of Smite 2 has explained why there are no plans to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch console. The original Smite is a third-person MOBA that gives players the chance to play as a god from a wide variety of mythological pantheons. Smite 2's reveal trailer showed that it would be a huge upgrade compared to the first game, boasting upgraded visuals thanks to the game's upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.
Smite 2's reveal trailer also confirmed the platforms it would be launching on, which includes PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the Steam Deck. Smite 2 also confirmed it would have cross-play functionality, though according to the developers, any cross progression is dependent on partner approval. One system that is omitted from Smite 2's release is the Nintendo Switch, which may seem odd considering its predecessor was released on the console. The executive producer of Smite, Alex Cantatore, confirms that the Switch is being skipped over due to its hardware.
In an interview with TechRadar, Cantatore says that the team behind Smite 2 was uncertain that the Nintendo Switch would have the necessary power to handle the game, stating that the console's current hardware wouldn't be able to deliver the intended experience they were aiming for. «We're concerned that currently, with the power level of Switch and the minimum specs that we're targeting,» says Cantatore. «We just aren't sure that we'd be able to develop or deliver a really good experience to people playing on Switch currently.»
