Praise be to the Emperor, developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have confirmed that plans for either DLC or a full sequel for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 are already being proposed.
Speaking to IGN, Saber CCO Tim Willits said the game's surprise success had «changed everything» for the developer. While the creative officer wouldn't get into the gritty numbers (we know Space Marine 2 had two million players at launch), he said it was the fastest-selling game he's ever worked on. Willits was the director of id Software until 2019, which means Space Marine 2 outpaced any of the DOOM, Wolfenstein, Rage or Quake games released under his tenure.
Further, Willits, again without getting into specifics, claims that Space Marine 2's budget was less than half that of DOOM Eternal, the last game he oversaw at id. While we couldn't verify that game's budget, it did make around $450m in profit in its first nine months on the market, so we imagine Space Marine 2 is bringing in a healthy chunk of change. Practically, this will allow Saber to «dream bigger», and Willits says that Space Marine 2's content roadmap will require «adjustments» due to the game's unexpected success, so please be excited about that.
Two million Space Marine Battle-Brothers, or 2000 full-strength Chapters
New maps, harder difficulty, Horde Mode
