Secret Service Director to Become Snap's New Chief Security Officer

James Murray is leaving his post as director of the US Secret Service for a position with Snapchat parent company Snap Inc. At the end of this month(Opens in a new window), he'll become Snap's new chief security officer.

Murray, a 27-year veteran of the Secret Service, has been looking to retire "for some time," according to The Washington Post(Opens in a new window), which first reported his move to the private sector.

"We're thrilled to welcome Jim Murray to Snap and look forward to him joining our team on Aug. 1," a company spokesperson told Variety(Opens in a new window). "Jim will bring a wealth of experience to this new role, which will help ensure the safety and security of the more than 5,000 Snap employees who live and work across the globe."

Murray began his federal service in 1990 as an investigator with the US Department of Transportation; five years later, he joined the Secret Service as a special agent investigating cyber-enabled financial crimes. Across a nearly three-decade-long career, Murray filled various roles before becoming the 26th director of the US Secret Service in 2019.
