.
After years of speculation about whether Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) was really married in the MCU or not, the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director’s wife was finally revealed. The story also heavily implied Fury’s wife was a Skrull, potentially explaining his strong interest in the Skrulls and their fate, as the infiltration of Skrulls into human society would involve his personal life. The episode does not directly address this revelation, leaving room for further exploration in future episodes. Fury has always been quite secretive about his personal life, but he did tell Steve Rogers his wife kicked him out of their house in one of his Captain America: The Winter Soldier lines.
Episode 2 also delved into Gravik’s (Kingsley Ben-Adir) past, shedding some light on his whys and hows. It was shown that the pair first met in London in 1997 when Gravik accepted to work for Fury immediately after the kid’s parents were killed in the Kree–Skrull War. Fury promised the surviving Skrulls to find them a new home by working side-by-side with Carol Danvers. Apparently, their relationship turned sour at some point. From Gravik’s point of view, Fury didn’t keep his word and betrayed the Skrulls’ faith. For this reason, the Skrull rebel leader is looking to take over Earth and transform it into New Skrullos.
