Earth is dealing with a major separatist Skrulls problem and needs Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) back from his vacation in the S.A.B.E.R. Space Station. When the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned home, Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) informed him of the threat. Together, they tried to prevent a Skrulls terrorist attack from going down, but things went downhill when Fury started hallucinating. In a moment of clarity, Fury confronted the separatist Skrull leader Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who had assumed Fury’s form and shot Hill. Right before her apparent death, Hill said to the real Fury, “It was you,” while Fury denied having anything to do with her shooting. The images faded to black as Hill was lying on the ground wounded.
The separatist Skrulls are thriving in Russia, where they have set their new base called New Skrullos. Secret Invasion episode 1 also brought back G’iah (Emilia Clarke), Talos’ estranged daughter who is actively working for Gravik. Father and daughter had a confrontation during the episode where Talos informed G’iah that her mother, Soren, had died. While Talos didn’t provide more details, he implied Gravik had something to do with it. G’iah seemed to have a sudden change of heart when she told Talos how to identify the terrorists carrying the bombs.
