Petrolheads, prepare yourselves! In case you aren't aware, EA Sports and Codemasters currently hold the rights to produce officially licensed World Rally Championship games, taking over from Nacon and KT Racing. The first game in this new contract will be released this year. Given Codemasters' excellent DiRT Rally series, we expect this official game to be a good one, and it seems as though we'll find out very soon indeed.
Reliable gaming leaker billbil-kun took to Twitter a couple of days ago to highlight some details about WRC 23 — what the game is purportedly called. According to the tweet, the game is lining up for release on PS5 on 28th July 2023:
Given we're about to enter the summer season of game announcements, it'd make sense for EA to reveal WRC 23 very shortly, especially if that release date is true. The leaker also says the game will be available in standard or Champions editions, with the latter including a full five seasons of post-launch content.
On a related note, billbil-kun also revealed a whole bunch of icons for achievements/Trophies for the game back in March, which suggests the game really is very close to release. We last heard about this game back in September of last year, when it was reported that it'll allow you to build your own rally car.
Given the source of this rumour, we're inclined to believe it. Billbil-kun has proven to be pretty accurate, most recently when they leaked the name of Mortal Kombat 1 before the official announcement. Still, as with all these things, we can never be completely certain. Hopefully WRC 23 makes its official debut soon.
