For many, the highlight of last week's PlayStation Showcase was the action-packed gameplay trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. This hotly anticipated sequel is looking fantastic — we saw new abilities and features, we got some big teasers for where the story's going, and of course, it's visually gorgeous. While it looks as though it's pretty much ready to roll, Insomniac Games has confirmed that what we saw isn't the final build of the game.
There's been a lot of hand-wringing among fans, spreading FUD among themselves about the PS5 exclusive's graphics. Many are pointing to the gameplay demo's water splashes and other minor assets as proof that this is a downgrade on previous entries in the series. Fortunately, community director James Stevenson has been able to confirm that the gameplay footage wasn't from a finalised version.
Responding to a concerned fan's question, Stevenson shared a single animated GIF:
Obviously, the game still has a few months at least before it's ready for prime time, and even though Spidey 2 is looking great already, polish is almost always left until the final stages of development. In other words, the next time we see it, it'll no doubt look even better, and closer to the end product we'll all be playing later this year.
