The Mercenaries are here for the Resident Evil 4 remake. That’s the free DLC that adds a new game mode where you try and kill as many baddies as possible before time runs out. Just like the remake, Capcom has revamped Mercenaries with a few new features, such as online leaderboards where you can see the best scores from around the world as well as Mayhem abilities that give each character a unique way to mow down Las Plagas-infected enemies.
There are also a few major differences between the original Resident Evil 4’s Mercenaries and the remake’s. First, there’s a new lineup of characters. Ada and Wesker are absent, while Luis, Leon, Hunk, and Krauser are in. Second, there are only three maps instead of four. And third, it’s way easier to get the Handcannon now.

In the original RE4’s Mercenaries mode, you had to get a five-star ranking on all four stages in order to unlock the Handcannon. But in the new Mercenaries, you just need to get S-rank on all three stages with one character, not all of them. A hat tip to Zairy47 for sharing this info on the Resident Evil subreddit.
For those who haven't tried it, the Handcannon used to be an enormously powerful Magnum revolver, but its power has been toned down in the remake. Unlocking the gun is no easy feat either, as it requires you to beat the game on Professional Mode without using any bonus weapons. While it doesn't have the amazing stopping power from the first Resident Evil 4, you can unlock an exclusive upgrade that gives it unlimited ammo. That's pretty great, but I'm not sure it justified the huge investment.
