Razer’s first effort foray into eyewear, the Anzu Smart Glasses, may have received some underwhelming reviews, but the company isn't giving up. Today it unveiled a new pair of glasses that go on sale later this week for $239. But don’t expect them to level up your gaming.
The PC maker designed the glasses, called the “Razersuperfutures,” in collaboration with Italian eyewear company Retrosuperfuture, Razer's first fashion eyewear partnership. But unlike the Anzu Smart glasses, which doubled as Bluetooth earphones, you won’t find any tech features here.
Instead, Razer is touting the glasses as a fashion accessory, complete with the company's neon green logo colors. The acetate frames merely feature “photochromic lenses,” meaning they’ll darken when exposed to sunlight. Hence, the product can be used indoors for gaming sessions, as well as outdoors as a pair of sunglasses.
The lenses feature blue light protection to help alleviate eye strain during long hours of staring at a computer monitor. But on the downside, Razer is not offering a prescription lens option.
In terms of their design, Razer says: “The mask-like silhouette was inspired by sportswear pieces with urban streetwear vibes. The model features chunky acetate rims and temples, onto which a wide lens has been mounted to offer extensive coverage and protection in use.”
Razer adds that the frames can also withstand “the rigors of intense gaming sessions,” although that’s probably true for all glasses.
The company says the frames will arrive as a limited-edition product. The first batch of Razersuperfutures go on sale on the company’s website(Opens in a new window) on May 5. In the meantime, the PC maker is selling(Opens in a new window) the Anzu Smart Glasses
