Dave Filoni Says Ahmed Best Could Be Back For More Star Wars Projects
During Season 3 of Disney+'s The Mandalorian, we saw a flashback of Grogu's escape from the Jedi Purge by Order 66. It was an escape that happened only thanks to the heroism of Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, played by the former Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best.
Best first portrayed the Jedi as the host of a 2020 online children's game show called Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge--think Legends of the Hidden Temple, but Star Wars-themed. Best was joined by droids and even a shadowy dark side of the Force character voiced by fellow Star Wars voice veteran, Sam Witwer.
The episode ended with Beq and Grogu getting out of Coruscant, with Beq's fate unknown at this time. Fans were wondering if more Beq adventures were in the pipeline or if he could return to the show in some capacity. Producer and Star Wars mythkeeper Dave Filoni and Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau stopped by Entertainment Weekly's Dagobah Dispatch podcast, the duo was asked if they had any plans in store for Best or Beq.
«It's always a possibility,» Filoni said (via EW). «We love Ahmed, and he did such a great job. It was a real thrill for us to get him involved. We talked with him about it. We come up with these ideas and we think: Who might work with it? We make sure before we get too far to bring them into the process, so it's not just like, 'Here's who you're going to play.' It's like, 'What do you think of this? We want you to be this person. What are your thoughts on it?' [We try to] make it a real collaboration and think it's really key to the success of it.»
