After a controversial reveal that saw tickets sell out almost immediately, Ravensburger has announced it’s opening up over 1,500 new spaces for its inaugural Disney Lorcana Challenge competitive events.
Both the Atlanta, Georgia and Lille, France events will now support up to 2,048 players, rather than the original 512, with the former even moving venue to facilitate such a sharp increase in competitors.
Both events, which are the first organised play events for Lorcana since its launch in September 2023, are due to be held on May 25. However, players were left disappointed with the small initial allocation of tickets, finding them both to be sold out within seconds of going on sale on March 24.
For the Georgia event, the venue is being moved from the Omni Hotel & CNN Center to the Georgia World Congress Center. Those playing in France will still head to the Lille Grand Palais, it’ll simply be a lot busier with quadruple the number of players.
The way these tickets are being distributed is also different from the first wave. The French event’s tickets will go up on sale on Monday, April 8 at 20:00 CEST through the original ticket page. Georgia, meanwhile, will only be offering its tickets to those already on the waitlist, where you’ll be given 24 hours after being notified by email to purchase your ticket after being selected.
Ravensburger is changing how it handles future events, such as the other Challenges confirmed for Chicago, Fort Worth, Toronto, Las Vegas, Seattle, Bochum, Bologna, and Birmingham. Tickets for these will now be sold through the Melee platform and tied to the account you’re signing up to the tournament for, to prevent scalpers.
These events will also have their player caps “at least double in size”, for a minimum of 1024 slots. Any event that has 1025 or more players will have promo card prizes and qualifications to the Continental Championships scale up to accommodate the increased number of competitors.
