Where’s that monkey’s paw, eh? Some fans now think the rumoured SEGA characters in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds may actually be post-release DLC.
That’s because one fan managed to sneak their way into the official website while it was down for maintenance, and discovered some text which wasn’t intended to be seen just yet.
Managed to get into the US CrossWorlds site for a bit amidst the maintenance. 23 characters confirmed for launch «and a ton more on the way»; 24 main tracks + 15 crossworlds. A Season Pass is coming, as well as a seperate piece of DLC called «Sonic Prime Playable Characters».
It notes there’ll be 23 characters at launch, with “many more on the way”. Meanwhile, a Digital Deluxe Edition lists a DLC Season Pass and Sonic Prime Playable Characters as key bonuses, alongside the now-customary early access.
Some fans suspect the initial roster of 23 characters will probably be filled with heroes and villains from the Sonic universe, meaning the more general SEGA characters teased previously could be reserved for DLC.
Incidentally, it sounds like there’ll be 24 main tracks at launch, alongside 15 CrossWorlds. And there’ll be 43 vehicles in total, including Extreme Gear boards.
Original Story: Look, we really like the Sonic kart racing games, but we’re particularly big fans of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Why? Well, because we loved the gameplay – which appears to be present in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – but also because we enjoyed the character roster.
There’s hope, however, that SEGA’s new racer won’t just be limited to heroes and villains from the Sonic universe.
Writing on the PS Blog, SEGA’s PR manager hinted that you can expect a cast based on “iconic characters from the Sonic and SEGA”.
This implies to us that alongside the obvious inclusion already announced – like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, Eggman, and Jet – you can also potentially look forward to the likes of Ulala, Amigo, and maybe even Kazuma Kiryu. Perhaps not
