Power Rangers: Once And Always Has A Reference To Old Sega Genesis Game
thegamer.comWhen Netflix announced Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once & Always, there was no question that it was going to be a nostalgia-laden special. What we didn’t know was just how Netflix would manage to pack in a video game reference into the 55-minute-long made-for-streaming movie.
Just as a warning, there are some spoilers for Power Rangers: Once & Always ahead. We'll try to keep this as clean as possible, but if you want to go in with totally fresh eyes, you might want to skip this part.

In the film, long-time Power Ranger villain Rita Repulsa returns as a robot that vows revenge. Some of the original rangers show up, including Billy (David Yost) and Zack (Walter Emanuel Jones), as well as rangers from later series/seasons, including Rock (Steve Cardenas) and Kat (Catherine Sutherland). And there's plenty of archival footage to honor the late Thuy Trang (who died in a car accident in 2001) and Jason David Frank (who died last year).
And as you'd expect, there are also plenty of giant robots, including the Megazord. Naturally, the Megazord features heavily in the final showdown against Robo Rita, with some other giant Zord-type robot taking on the Power Rangers to determine the ultimate fate of Earth.
Die-hard Power Ranger fans noticed a certain similarity between that final fight and the final battle in the 1994 Sega Genesis fighting game. In the game, the Power Rangers travel to the Moon to defeat Cyclopsis, the Zord piloted by Goldar. That's exactly what happens in Once & Always, where the Megazord and another giant robot battle it out in front of Rita's palace.
