EverQuest’s new UI engine is now ready for the live servers. The team is rolling it out gradually, as announced in the most recent Producer’s Letter, as part of the modernization to keep EverQuest going into the future.
The team shared an update thanking those who tested the UI engine on the test server in order to get it to this point. They're also letting everyone know that the new UI engine is designed to not really be something you notice. It isn’t a typical “UI revamp”, though it does include some new features. This is more of a back-end development, and the new engine in place will look similar to the previous UI. However, those new features available now include window scaling, docking, and other ways to customize the UI windows.
It's also important to remember that the full UI engine upgrade will happen gradually over time, Right now, only a few windows are live with the new UI engine. Those include inventory, story, quantity, and windows selector windows are now converted to the new UI engine. You should be able to test out those new features like the scaling slider or the slash UI scale command to test out what's now possible.
You can use the default UI and most everything should work similarly to how it's always worked, but these changes are going to continue for a while. However, the full work is necessary to ensure that players will be able to continue securely logging in and accessing vital functions, in addition to the overall modernization process that EQ has been undergoing–including adding 64-bit servers and ending support for some very old systems to give the team the resources to continue creating new content.
