Pokémon Legends Z-A will seemingly take place entirely in one city.
Set for release on Nintendo Switch in 2025, Pokémon Legends Z-A was announced on Tuesday during a Pokémon Presents presentation, with a trailer showing off Lumiose City.
However, while fans speculated that this would mean that the wider Kalos region would also be included in the game, a post on X from Nintendo of America appears to confirm the game will feature just one city in the region.
“Watch to see the reveal trailer for Pokémon Legends ZA, a new adventure set entirely within Lumiose City,” the post reads.
The Kalos region, which is based on France, made its debut in Pokémon X & Y. Lumiose City is based on Paris, and was the game’s central hub.
Based on the X post, it would appear that players won’t be visiting the surrounding areas. Kalos features 16 cities in the original X & Y games.
Pokémon Legends Arceus took place in the Hisui region, a region that would later become Sinnoh, the region in which Pokémon Diamond and Pearl take place.
While the game had a central hub city wherein players would receive quests and visit shops, there were several large open areas that players were able to visit.
Based on the trailer it’s clear that the city will be far larger than in the original game and will likely contain multiple regions and biomes within it.
It’s speculated that Paldea, the setting of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which is based on Spain, is situated to the south of Kalos.
