Weapon skins are a new type of Overwatch 2 cosmetic added in Season 8. Though players could previously obtain special Golden weapons via Competitive Play, this was the first time fans could directly purchase special weapons that would replace the existing models on any skin they were used with.
Now, Overwatch 2 has released its second batch of weapon skins – and they have a noteworthy detail. The Los Muertos weapon skins, currently available for Soldier: 76 and Junkrat in Overwatch 2, change color based on whether the character is standing in the light or the shade. This awesome detail makes these skins unique, while also showing off some interesting light-recognition tech that could be used in other places in Overwatch 2’s future.
Beyond the fact these weapons change color, the Los Muertos weapon skins feature some satisfying new sound effects when they are fired, making them an excellent addition to any collector’s arsenal. Each character’s individual weapon skin can be purchased for 1200 Overwatch Coins, or together in a bundle for 1900 Overwatch Coins – a currency Overwatch 2 players will be able to earn more of via the Battle Pass starting in Season 10.
Reception to the Los Muertos skins has been quite positive overall. While fans were not especially charmed by them initially, the fact they change colors, paired with the unique SFX, has convinced some players to pick them up.
