Google bumped up the battery capacities on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, along with adding a more efficient Tensor G4 to help both flagships last longer. However, in the latest battery drain test, what surprised us the most was seeing that both of the smartphones had the lowest recorded temperatures against competitors like the OnePlus 12, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, despite not impressing in the runtime category.

A series of tests were performed by the YouTube channel TechDroider to really hammer the battery on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the other flagships. Temperature readings were taken at different intervals to see how hot each device got, and you will be surprised to check out the results. The first handset to power down was the Pixel 8 Pro, lasting for only 8 hours and 39 minutes. However, it had the second-lowest temperature of any flagship that was a part of this test, reaching 41.2 degrees Celsius.

The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a 4,700mAh and 5,060mAh battery, respectively, and despite this difference, both smartphones powered down at nearly the same time, lasting for 10 hours and 25 minutes, making it a significant bump compared to the Pixel 8 Pro’s endurance. What is interesting to note here is that both models had the lowest temperature out of any device tested, touching 40.9 degrees Celsius.
